Some of you may remember lovely John Wickson from a few years ago. John sadly passed away aged 80 on 29 March 2026.

His table tennis life began as a player for Filtrona Royals in the early 1980s with Steve Paice and Terry Field (who also died last year). Filtrona Royals became one of the founder teams at Greenleys Table Tennis Club and were known as Greenleys Royals. John played for many years until moving away to live in St. Albans. He was a clever, technically gifted engineer. He was also a very genial man who laughed easily. His other hobbies included climbing and walking and he celebrated his 50th birthday in the Himalayas. He was a mainly defensive player, who looked as surprised as anyone else if he hit a winning smash! His funeral will be at Crownhill Crematorium at 2pm on Friday 8 May.
