Closed Championships Singles Groups Sunday 8th March 2026

Published 05/03/2026 at 12:30:34 by Michael Howard.

  1. There are 44 players, in 11 groups of 4. Each player plays the others in the group, in the best of 3 games. Each group winner will automatically go into the draw for the knockout rounds (last 16), which will also be played as the best of 3 games. Rounds from the Quarter Final will be played as the best of 5 games.
  2. 5 of the groups will start later. The starting 6 groups will need to be ready to play at 0930. I’ve estimated that each group will take about 60minutes, so those in the later groups should arrive by about 1000, as they may be needed to play from about 1015 if any groups finish earlier than expected. Please allow enough time to park. Please report to me on arrival.
  3. The 5 best performing runners up from all the groups will also go into the last 16 knockout round. This will be decided in the following order:

Sets won; Difference between games won and lost; The outcome of the set between the players concerned, if from the same group;Points difference.

  4. Players not progressing to the main knockout rounds will go into the knockout Plate competition, which will be drawn on a random basis without seeding (best of 3 games until the final, which will be the best of 5 games).
  5. Each player’s division is shown in brackets. The first name in each group is a seed, with the group number based on the averages at the time of the draw, irrespective of the number of matches played. The other group players have been drawn on a random basis. All groups have 2 seeds (players from Premier and Division 1).
  6. As last year, the Championship Singles will be played to conclusion before other events such as the Championship Doubles and Vets begins. The trophies for all events will be handed out at the tournament.
  7. Important-please note: there are a total of 47 entrants this season for all the events so it will be essential that players are ready to start their matches when called, unless playing or umpiring. If players are not available when called, they may be scratched from an event. There is no such thing as a 10-minute trip to Tesco or Costa to get something to eat.
  8. Other events will start as the final stages of the Championship Singles and the Plate are completed.
