PREMIER DIV
DEBUT VICTORY FOR THE GLORY BOYS

Greenleys Glory notched up their first ever Premier win this week when they beat MK Sasaki 6-4. Star man Ian Mead’s hat-trick was well supported this time round by a Jacob Midson brace topped up with vital doubles set win. Michael Wilkins (2) one a-piece from Minesh Pitamber and div 1 sub Andy Smith completed the scoring. Scott Dixon was the third Glory boy.

It’s been a good week for the lower division lads in the Prem as Leighton Buzzard Generations’ Bernie Rolfe also claimed a Premier scalp when he beat Shrishlal Basant Rai in their match with Greenleys Warriors. Warriors still went home the winners though thanks to a Darren Ward hat-trick, a Ricky Taiwo brace and, once again, the doubles set proving vital for the victorious side. Antonina Bohech and Hakan Karaagac hit a brace each for the Generations. Only one set went the distance here with Darren beating Antonina 14-12 in the 5th game, the closest finishing set in the Prem so far this season.

MK Spinners continue to lead the pack after an 8-2 victory over bottom placed club-mates Phoenix. The night though was a mini triumph for Phoenix Mervyn Phillips, who bagged the consolation sets for his team with an opening match win against Gary Jones (11-9 in the 5th) before closing the contest by beating Jecu Aurelian in 4 tight games decided by 2-point margins. Shame about the middle one though, comfortably outplayed by Alan Cherry, the one player in the League who surely must be his role model! Iaon Constantin and Gerald Ridgway were the other Phoenix men.

Only 3 matches as, with just a single player available from the MK Titans squad pool, opponents Greenleys Monarchs agreed to a postponement (date to be announced).

DIVISION 1
TOPSPIN TOP TABLE

An 8-2 win against Leighton Buzzard Avengers took my MK Topspin team to League leaders this week. Avengers snatched the doubles 15-13 in the 5th before doubling their score with a late Steve Jordan win over Russell Penn. Hat-tricks for Mervyn Kelly and me as Richard Hardy and big hitting newcomer Dwight Edwards went home winless. A further 4 sets went to a decider though, so the match wasn’t as one-sided as it appeared.

Chackmore Hasbeens replicated Topspin’s score-line to take them up to 2nd spot, and this against early leaders MK Sharks.. Bub Burman led the way with a maximum with support from Sam Willett and Andy Whitehead, winning 2 a-piece. Rupert Greyling bagged his own brace for Sharks, but that was the extent of the Sharks scoring. Abhay Tijare and Div 2 sub Kareem Omar also played.

Another big win for Open University Primes, just missing out on consecutive whitewash weeks when conceding the final set of the night to promoted Greenleys team Princes, who are finding life hard going at this higher level. Saravana Kumar saved the day for Princes with a 11-7 victory in the 5th against James Zeng, the only set to go the distance. Maximums for Patrick Wong and Andy Tan, zeros for Egbuna Bgbuna and Div 2 sub Richard Anderson.

Unusually, no close matches this time round as Leighton Buzzard Van Hire beat MK Pumas 7-3 thanks to a Fabrice Spelta straight games hat-trick backed by a Dave Broome double and one from Mateusz Browarnik. Julie Snowdon grabbed a couple herself for Pumas and son Adam one. Chris Belton was the third Puma in action.
