SWANS GLIDE MAJESTICALLY TO CHALLENGE CUP SUCCESS

The challenge cup final took place last night between Mursley Swans of division 5 and Greenleys Crusaders of division 6. Following the success of Crusaders throughout the season, Swans had been awarded a handicap of 140 points on the night despite playing in a higher division during the regular season. Crusaders were looking to achieve the perfect season having won all 18 league matches dropping just 23 points in the process.

The first three singles legs all went well for Crusaders with them clawing back 54 points of the handicap over the 3 legs which put them ahead of target and looking like favouites to take the cup. We then came to what during the regular season is often a pivotal leg with the doubles and so it proved in this year's final. Swans managing to turn the tide in their favour by taking both sets and winning the doubles 42 points to 30.

Crusaders then managed to reduce the deficit over the next 2 singles legs. Then in leg 7, Ian the Crusaders captain and Ed of Swans played each other. Ed managed to cause an upset and with some great angles win both legs to put Swans firmly in the driving seat.

The last 3 sets then went to the form book with all of them being won by Crusaders by amounts close to what was needed under the match handicap. The end result being that Swans won the cup by 41 points.

Congratulations to both teams on reaching the final. Well done to Todd, Ed and John on their success and Crusaders on what has been an amazing season.

Thank you for all those who took part in the cup this year.
