PREMIER DIV
KINGS RULE OK

A great all-round performance from Greenleys Kings against reigning champions MK Spinners keeps them 10 points clear at the top. 2 wins a-piece from Nick Howard, Guy Sparrow and Craig Brown saw the Kings men to a 6-4 win. A bitter-sweet match victory for Kings’ skipper Nick though as he lost his 100% singles win record for the season to Jecu Aurelian’s only victory of the night. A terrific run of successes it must be said, 21 in all going back to February when he last tasted a league defeat (to Nicolas Wong). Alan Cherry got a brace for Spinners but a blank for Tim Cheek. While Kings remain the only unbeaten team, Spinners crashed to their 3rd defeat so far.

Second placed Greenleys Monarchs stay well in the mix after an 8-2 win over Leighton Buzzard Van Hire, who continue to rotate their large squad with an all changed team from last time, Hakan Karaagac, Ian Doughty and David Broome coming in for this one with Hakan outstanding with a brace against Martin Hall and Dave Beddall. Hat-trick here for Tomek Nowakowski.  It’s Kings next up for Monarchs in the much anticipated Greenleys royal derby.

Greenleys Warriors thrashed bottom placed MK Phoenix 9-1. The ‘one that got away’ from them was Ameya Phatak’s defeat to Iaon Constantin, whose defensive wiles proved too good on the night. Maximums for Darren Ward, who played his three straight off and went early, and Ricky Taiwo. Zeros for Mervyn Phillips and Ivor Howard.

Finally, a 9-1 win for MK Sasaki over my MK Topspin side with Sasaki sub Rupert Greyling (up from Div 1) taking the plaudits with a brace of wins over Russell Penn and myself to compliment predictable maximums from Nicolas Wong and Michael Wilkins. Topspin’s Mervyn Kelly stopped the rot with a fine win over Rupert and a good all round performance that included holding match points against Michael.

DIVISION 1
PUMAS TAMED BY AVENGERS IN CLOSE ENCOUNTER

A top of the table clash for Pumas for the second successive week but no victorious outcome this time round as Leighton Buzzard Avengers sent the League leaders crashing to their first defeat. A great all-round Avenger performance with two each from the Alex DuNoyer and Crist Hulpan, one from Bernie Raffe and the doubles success for Cristl/Bernie. It all came down to the wire with Christinel triumphing in the deciding game of the final set against Andy Smith. Earlier Andy had lost his 100% record when losing 18-16 in the 5th game to Alex. Pumas’ Lowri Herd took her usual hat-trick while Chris Belton hit another zero. A close encounter.

What a week for 3rd placed MK Sharks’ Rupert Greyling! On Tuesday he rolled over a couple of Premier players for Sasaki and 24 hours later was back at MKTTC on duty for his Sharks side, scoring a maximum this time against Open University Primes in a 6-4 win. Rampant Rupert beat Patrick Wong, Andy Tan and James Zeng in addition to pairing up with Derick Rodrigues, who won twice in singles, for the vital doubles win. Half the sets in the match went to a deciding game with 4 of them going Sharks’ way. Primes’ lone success in the 5 gamers came from Patrick, who beat Derick 12-10 in the final game. Abhay Tijare was the other Shark player.

MK Powers second draw of the season came against club-mates Pioneers, Pete Tillotson and Keith Carrington winning 2 each and pairing up for the doubles. Winless Bill Tyler played up from Div 2 to fill the void this time. Paul Haigh was in good form for Pioneers with a maximum, supported by a win each from Terry Lau and Andy Frearson.

A shortened programme this week as Woburn Sands Mosquitos match with Greenleys Glory was postponed due to covid, injury and a lack of suitable lower Division stand-ins for the Woburn side. Hopefully this can be rearranged before Christmas.
