Princes Enhance Lead

Despite only playing once during this final two week period of 2025, Greenleys Princes' lead at the top of the table has remained a significant 16 points, as potential rivals all keep taking points off each other, whilst Princes cruised to a 9-1 win in their last match of this year, against Open University Shockwave.  The whitewash was only averted by the smallest of margins, when Charity Wong triumphed 20-18 in the fifth against Anand Keshav, in a marathon set.  However, Saravana Kumar and Richard Bailey each beat Charity in five, and all three of the Princes team ran out straight games winners in the other sets, with Richard and Anand also taking the doubles in four games.

Whilst Princes only played once, second-placed Leighton Buzzard Van Hire had two matches and thus a chance to make up ground, however, they first went down to surprise 4-6 defeat to fifth-placed Mursley Hawks, so ending a seven match unbeaten run, and then were held to a 5-5 draw by third placed Woburn Sands Mosquitoes.

Similarly, Mosquitoes had a chance to edge closer to the leaders, but were also held 5-5 in their other match in this week, by sixth-placed Shockwave, despite James Molloy going both matches unbeaten.

Fourth-placed Little Horwood Wooden Tops were also due to play twice, but their match versus seventh-placed Milton Keynes Cavaliers was postponed, and this was followed up by a 4-6 defeat to Hawks, who have overtaken them, albeit Wooden Tops have a match in hand.
UPDATE: Wooden Tops awarded a 7-0 win against Cavaliers, meaning Wooden Tops move back into third spot, ahead of Mosquitoes and Hawks.
Subsequent text has been updated to reflect the revised positions and points.

With two thirds of the League matches now completed, after two full ‘rounds’ of matches, it means Princes have a commanding 16 point lead, and they are getting close to being certain of gaining one of the two promotion spots.  It remains much closer for second spot, with just nine points separating second to fifth.  Shockwave, in sixth, have lost some ground on the teams above them, and are now 12 points adrift of the safety of fifth spot, whilst Cavaliers remain seventh, now some 13 points behind Shockwave.

Team of the Week : Mursley Hawks (with two wins against teams above them).
Player of the Week : James Molloy (six singles wins out of six).

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all, and the League matches restart on 12th January 2026, when the top two play each other (Princes v Van Hire), third and fourth face each other (Wooden Tops away to Mosquitoes) and fifth take on seventh (Hawks v Cavaliers), with Shockwave on a gap week.  Meanwhile, the Challenge Cup rounds take up three of the next five weeks of play after the New Year.
