Mursley Hawks 5 - 5 Milton Keynes Shambles
Shambles picked up a useful five points on their visit to Hawks, although at one stage it looked like they could be on for a win.
It was Shambles who edged the opening two sets, as Steve Jordan just squeezed past reserve, Joe Rich, playing up for the
third time (as well as playing in his own team's match on the adjacent table), with Steve coming back from 2-1 down in games,
to win games 4 & 5, both at 11-9. It was a similar story as Paddy Patel found himeself two games down to Frank Beck, but he
battled back in the remaining games, with games 4 & 5 both going to deuce, to win against an unlucky Frank. Martin Johnson
pulled one back for Hawks with a win in straight games over Jim Robinson, although games 2 & 3 were very tight! The visitors
moved to 3-1 up as Steve / Jim got the better of Martin / Frank in the doubles, and it became 4-1 to Shambles as Steve won
another tight five gamer, this time 11-8 in the decider against Frank.
The Hawks comeback started with Joe taking three close games against Jim, and Martin doing likewise against Paddy, with
the score levelling up at 4-4 as Frank defeated Jim in straight games. Hawks moved ahead for the first time, as Martin had
a touch of luck to just beat Steve 16-14 in the fourth game, after Steve had gone a game up, whilst the night ended up with
honours even, as Paddy came from a game down against Joe to take it in four, and secure the draw which looks like it may
be enough to ensure Shambles' place in the division for another season.
