Fourth placed Mursley Hawks hosted sixth placed Little Horwood Wooden Tops in this week 5 encounter, with not much between them in the League - given that Wooden Tops have a match in hand - each having had one win and one defeat thus far.
Martin Johnson gave Hawks an early lead, beating Andy Hooper in four games, but John Sharp evened things up with victory over Ian Spanswick in three tight games.
With Wooden Tops third player, Paul Reynolds running late, some sets were played out of order, and Hawks captain, David Bartlett played Andy first, and ended up being the star of the show, winning all three of his singles, albeit with a touch of luck early on in his first set, when a sequence of nets saw him sneak the first leg against the luckless Andy. David proceeded to take full advantage of his luck, and went on to win in straight games, later also beating John in four games, from one game down, and then finally against Paul, again in straight games.
Wooden Tops clawed back some sets as Paul comfortably won his other two singles against Ian and Martin, whilst John defeated Martin, to also take John to two wins on the night.
Martin and Ian took a tight doubles against Andy and John, in a good comeback after being well beaten in the first game, whilst the remaining set of the night was the only five gamer, in a seesaw battle that first saw Ian go 2-0 up against Andy, only to see Andy fight back to 2-2. The decider was neck and neck, but Ian grabbed it 11-8, to give Hawks their second win of the season, and stretch their unbeaten run to four matches.
