Spinners Peg Kings Back in 2 Table Thriller
Runaway leaders Spinners hosted Greenleys Kings in a match played across 2 tables all night….. Which is a good job, otherwise we might have been playing into the early hours of the morning!
Alan Cherry, Gary Jones and Jecu Aurelian faced off against Nick Howard, Jordan Moss and inform Guy Sparrow.
We started on two tables so that Gary could have a shower in a different house…….. There is more context in there somewhere, but you’ll have to ask him yourself!
He wasted no time flying off to a 3-0 win over Jordan on one table, whilst the 2 captains faced off on the adjacent table.
Alan, who is on a 17 match winning streak, had only lost 1 match all season (the very first match of the season at that), took the first end against Howard 11-8, before Howard started firing to take a 2-1 lead.
Inevitably, Cherry ground out the 4th 12-10 to take it to a decider, and in a back and forth tussle, it was Howard who broke the Cherry streak to win 13-11 in the 5th.
Jecu bamboozled his way to victory over Guy in 4 topsy turvy sets before Gary, who clearly really wanted his shower, wasted no time beating Howard in 3.
Jordan was unfortunate not to pick up an end against Jecu or Alan and Guy managed to stop the express train that was Gary Jones in 4 sets.
Guy was close to picking up a 2nd win on the night going to 5 with Alan, before the wily Spinner had his way in the final end.
Which just left Jecu on a hat trick as he faced off against Howard - He had chances at 2-1 up, before we had our 3rd 5th set of the night.
At 4-1 up in the 5th, Jecu was on course for the win, but somehow lost his way, as Howard reeled off 10 points in a row to leave 4 players on 2 wins for the night (all 3 Spinners and Howard).
The doubles was the final match to go the distance, with Cherry and Jecu winning the first 2, before Sparrow and Howard clawed back the next 2, and should have really seen it out.
But it was the Spinners who took it in the end (12-10 in the 5th), for a well fought 7-3 on the night.
