Kings overpower Topspin in one sided affair.

Despite the two wordiest of people playing in the same match, this felt like it could be a very quick report to write. With that being said, Topspin were flying high after their season best, 6-4 loss to KingPins last week; whilst the Kings had suffered their worst result of the year with a 6-4 win against the Warriors.
It was the same trio on both sides making up the numbers this week. Topspin fielding the Shakespeare of Table Tennis, Dave Wackrill, alongside Russell Penn and Mervyn Kelly. The Kings sending out the all too familiar Nick Howard, Matt Haynes and Guy Sparrow.
The first 4 matches went by in a flash. Matt, Nick and Guy, despatching Dave, Russell and Mervyn three straight in quick succession.
The doubles was also one way traffic as Nick and Matt wasted little time in beating Russell and Mervyn.
Dave was the first to show some fighting spirit, as he took game 3 against Nick and was up by 4 points in game 4. Although that was the end of the run, as Nick rounded out a 3-1 victory taking game 4 to 8.
Mervyn and Russell didn’t trouble the scorecard against Matt and Guy respectively, before Mervyn stole game 3 against Nick, to lose 3-1.
With just two matches left, we looked set for an early night, and when Guy powered into a 2-0 lead against Dave, a 9:45 finish was on the cards.
But was it to be? Or not to be? That was the question Dave asked himself, and he dominated game 3, 11-4, which was punctuated by a trademark Federeresque long armed backhand down the line, a shot that he makes look so easy and plays with staggering success.
A topsy turvy game 4 saw both players have multiple game points, but it was the experience over youth, as Dave sealed it 17-15, to take us into a decider.
If truth be known, Guy was always playing catch up in the last, and despite getting back to parity after changing ends at 5-2 down, Dave looked comfortable, as he sealed a very fine win 11-9 in the 5th.
With the fireworks over, Matt despatched Russell for the loss of just 13 points.
Some very enjoyable games all around.
