Wood you believe it? Andy dampens Phoenix’s flames!
With in-form Guy Sparrow out with Covid (get well soon young Sparrow), The Kings recruited Andy Wood from Northampton to make the trip to Kingston and face MK Phoenix.
Phoenix had their own troubles with players away, or dropping out at the last minute - But with the fear of being written up in the end of week match report by Dave Wackrill, Gerald managed to persuade Abhay Tijare to join himself and Ivor Howard (no relation….. in case anyone was wondering).
Alongside Nick Howard and Andy Wood, was the recently recalled Craig Brown. His loss during week one still haunting the Kings squad, and giving Craig occasional nightmares of his own.
Now, this is a tough report to write, as it was a very one sided affair.
Whilst every match was entertaining in it’s own way, the 30-0 scoreline in games highlighted the stark differences between a top Division One team from last year and the Premier Division.
That’s not to say Phoenix didn’t have chances. 6 of the 30 games went to 9 or deuce for the MK team, but they couldn’t get over the line in any of them.
Special note to Abhay and Andy who both stepped in at the last minute to ensure the match went ahead with 3 players in each side.
An almost perfect start to the season for Kings.
29 from 30 points…… We don’t talk about the 1.
