Greenleys Kings within touching distance of their 2nd Premier title

With arch rivals and stablemates, Monarchs only managing a 5-5 draw against Warriors this week, the Kings match against MK Sasaki was a pivotal moment in the title race.
The now very familiar trio of Nick, Craig and Guy hosted Nicolas Wong, Mike Wilkins and Hillard Haim, playing up from division 4 of all places……
Nick and Mike were first up, and it was fairly one way traffic from the Kings captain. Mike did manage to sneak the 3rd in deuce, but Howard closed out it comfortably in 4.
Craig faced off against Nicolas in match 2, going the full 5 rounds with some exciting attacking potential on display.
But it was the heavy float pushes from Brown that edged him over the line, 11-8 in the 5th - A fine redemption after losing their last encounter.
Despite having just a 50% average in division 4 (3 wins from 6 matches), Hillard was a known entity to his first opponent, Guy Sparrow.
Guy had beaten him 3-1 in the league tournament, but I think it was safe to say that Hillard had potential far beyond Division 4.
This was extremely evident in game 1 as he edged it out 11-9, before dropping the 2nd but winning the 3rd to go 2-1 up!
Hillard had multiple match points in the 4th before Guy ground his way to a 15-13 win, and then went on to sneak the 5th 11-8.
Nick and Craig saw off Mike and Nicolas in the doubles with little trouble (3-0), before Craig found even more redemption against Mike, having lost in their last encounter, by seeing him off in 3 straight.
Nick proved a little too consistent for Hillard next up, but there is absolutely no doubt that he has the potential to really kick on and become a fantastic player in future.
Guy played significantly better against Nicolas, but Wong proved too hot to handle in the crucial points to take the win in 3.
Craig finished off his perfect evening by beating the impressive Haim in 3 before Guy banished the ghosts of Christmas past when he turned the tables on Mike in 4 very good ends.
Nick and Nicolas were last up, and it looked to be another straight forward victory for the Kings captain when leading 2-0. But Wong found some form at the right time to pull back 2 in quick succession before heading into the 5th.
It wasn’t to be for the Sasaki prodigy as Howard upped his game in impressive style to take it 11-6 and close out a very impressive night for the Kings.
With 2 games left to play, Monarchs host Leighton Buzzard whilst Kings play Spinners.
Before the mouth watering finale of Kings vs Monarchs as the last game of the season.

Kings are 10 points ahead, so it’s all in their hands now…..
