Desperate Monarchs keep title race alive with win over 2 and a half men Titans!

No, this wasn’t an episode from the hit TV show from the early 2000’s, but such is the prestige and allure of the MK Premier Trophy that the Monarchs captain refused a request from the Titans to postpone the match due to injury.
The things a title race will do to you........
With a huge squad of 6 players to call on, it came as no surprise to see their three star players who could win them the league turn up to play their arch rivals. Dave Tiplady, Alex Meade and Tomek Nowakowski have all been in fine form this year and if they play the remaining games, would be favourites to win the league.
Titans were half a man (or leg) down on the night. Nick Howard having sustained a calf tear earlier in the week was forced into playing under the circumstances, and was joined by regulars Craig and Guy.
Sparrow almost got the Titans off to a dream start when leading Tomek 2-0 and had 3 match points to close it out - But such is the competitiveness of the league at the top of the table, that the Monarchs star fought back brilliantly to snatch the 3rd and go on to win 3-2.
Déjà vu in match 2…… Howard surprised all when leading Tiplady by 2 sets to love. But an awkward forehand in the 3rd compounded the leg injury, and the Hardbat WORLD CHAMPION didn’t need any help rattling off the next 3 for the win.
Brown kept the Titans in the game with a nice 3-0 win over Meade, but went on to lose 3-0 in the doubles playing with Guy against Tomek and Dave.
Guy was then blown away by Tiplady in the 5th match, as was Craig when playing Tomek in the 6th….. At 5-1 down it looked like the Monarchs could close the gap to just 2 points by the end of the night.
However, Howard somehow managed to claw over the line against Meade in a back and 4th 5 setter - Revenge for losing his previous match against Meade in 5 when leading 2-0 earlier in the year.
Craig then saw off Tiplady in virtually identical circumstances in a heroic win to bring it back to 5-3 on the night.
Meade ensured Monarchs would take the win by beating Sparrow 3-1, which just left Tomek and Nick to battle out the decider.
In 3 very close ends (9-11, 10-12, 9-11) it was somehow the Titans captain who prevailed whilst playing on one leg, which limited what could have been an absolute disaster for the previous Champions.
As it is, Monarchs will rue the missed opportunities as they look to bridge the 8 point gap with just 4 matches left.
