PREMIER DIV
KINGS’ GO-TO GUY DELIVERS WITH STYLE

Leaders Greenleys Kings have Guy Sparrow to thank for posting a positive result for them once again this week in a late, late finish at Leighton Buzzard club’s Wing headquarters against Van Hire. Guy logged another fine maximum in a match where the last 6 sets, and 7 overall, went the distance. A brace from Craig Brown and a single from Nick Howard enabled Kings to leave Bedfordshire with a 6-4 win under their belt. Biao Wang hit a brace for the home boys with Hakan Karaagac one and the crucial doubles between them. Fabrice Spelta was the other Van man.

2nd placed Greenleys Monarchs also won 6-4, although they had to stage a comeback from 2-4 down to snatch victory from MK Sasaki in order to do so. Tomek Nowakowski maintained his fine form of late – it’s 14 wins in a row now - with a hat-trick, Martin Hall had 2 wins and Dave Beddall one. Dave was perhaps a tad unlucky to lose the only 5-setter of the night at 13-11 in the decider to Nicolas Wong, but then had the final say of the match by clinching victory in the last set over Michael Wilkins. Nicolas enjoyed 2 wins, also beating Martin, and William Kit Liang one, with Sasaki also taking the doubles.

Beleagured MK Spinners brought in Div 1 sub Paul Tompkins for their match with club-mates Phoenix. Paul has only just signed for his new team Powers in Div 1 and hasn’t had a chance to play for them when the call came to represent the champions. No wins for Paul here but Spinners ran out comfortable 7-3 victors with maximums from Jecu Aurelian and Gary Jones. Phoenix fielded their own Div 1 sub in Lowri Hurd to accompany Iaon Constantin and Mervyn Phillips.

Routine maximums for Ricky Taiwo and Darren Ward in Greenleys Warriors 9-1 success over my bottom of the table MK Topspin team, but a neat win for Topspin’s Russell Penn against Shrishlal Basant Rai to save the whitewash. Blanks for Mervyn Kelly and myself.

DIVISION 1
HAT-TRICKS GALORE WITH A DOUBLE FOR ANDY

Woburn Sands Mosquitoes started catching up on their backlog of fixtures this week, playing their outstanding match from week 7 against MK Pumas in addition to this week’s one with MK Sharks. Pumas’ stars Andy Smith and Lowri Hurd gave them short shrift on Tuesday with maximums although Mosquitoes managed 3 wins from the other 4 sets with both James Molloy and Rob Mc Pheat beating Chris Belton and combining for the doubles. No wins for Glenn Barcham. But they then enjoyed a comfortable 9-1 win on Wednesday against MK Sharks to take them up to 3rd spot in the table. More success here for James and Rob with maximums that included the prize scalp of Rupert Greyling, whose only win on the night came against Andy Jenkins. Sharks other players were Abhay Tijare and Div 4 sub Simon Green.

In Pumas scheduled match of the week they dispatched Open University Primes 8-2 with another hat-trick from Andy Smith, joined this time by one from Julie Snowdon. Primes wins came from Andy Tan over Chris Belton and the doubles. Patrick Wong and div 2 sub Ganyu Adebanjo were the other Prime men. This week’s points collection extended Pumas lead at the top to 16 points in their inevitable march back to the Premier.

A first win of the season for MK Pioneers has been long overdue but it wasn’t against one of the weaker teams, their choice of victims being 2nd placed Leighton Buzzard Avengers. Marco Hahn was the hero here with a stunning hat-trick plus the doubles with Paul Haig, who chipped in with a brace. Terry Lau completed Pioneers scoring in a 7-3 win. Alex DuNoyer clocked 2 wins for Avengers and Cristi Hulpan 1. Steve Jordan was the other Avenger.

Another 7-3 score-line as Greenleys Glory beat MK Powers in the final match. In a good week for hat-tricks (9 in all) Ian Brown and Jacob Midson were the Glory boys, snapping up all 7 between them while Div 3 sub Daniel Carter, a young lad with an impeccable pedigree, made his Div 1 debut. Keith Carrington, Clare Styles and Pete Tillotson played for Powers.
