PIECE OF CAKE FOR BIRTHDAY BOY JIT
A sparkling hat-trick on his 43rd birthday ensured success for my MK Topspin side in this tough local derby on Wednesday.
The match started with two long 5-game sets in which I beat Rupert Greyling (my only contribution of the night) and Sharks’ major summer signing Sarah Hudson inched past Mervyn Kelly after saving a match point. This brought Jit to the table for the first of his wins against an overcoated Derick Rodrigues, to put Topspin 2-1 up.
The doubles was handsomely won, as was Mervyn’s straight games win over Rupert to shoot us into a 4-1 lead with star man Jit still having 2 sets to play, both of which were subsequently well won. Firstly in a battle of the big hitters with Sarah, who is enjoying a brilliant season so far across all competitions. This went to a decider before Jit pulled through against his ex MK Powers team-mate from last season. To ‘seal the deal’ the win over Rupert was far more mundane, the Sharks skipper not firing on all cylinders with a blank night here.
Man of the match : Jit Pitamber
