OBDURATE SHARKS CLING TO TOP SPOT
Nice match in what looks like being a very competitive Division this year. Sharks replaced Sarah Hudson from last week’s Primes whitewash with Abhay Tijare, who played alongside Rupert Greyling and Derick Rodrigues. For Topspin, Mervyn Kelly came in for holidaying Russell Penn to accompany Jiten Pitamber and myself.
We went into the match needing an 8-2 win to overtake Sharks at the top of the table and seemed to be on course when leading by 6-1 after half a dozen consecutive winning sets before ultimately falling one set short thanks to ‘first and last’ set successes from a very solid Derick and a late turn of form from Rupert. The Sharks’ skipper had previously been uncharacteristically profligate when losing in straight games to Mervyn and me but bounced back brilliantly to his best form for a straight games win himself when tangling with Jiten.
So, for now at least, Sharks remain the Divisional kingpins.
Man of the match : Derick Rodfrgues
