This weekend saw the first round of the County Championship over 60s Div 1(b) and Div 2, with matches played at BATTS, Harlow.

Bucks 1st team results  (Div 1b)

2-8 v Beds
5-5 v Essex 2nds
3-7 v Herts
6-4 v Middx

Alan Cherry, Michael Wilkins and myself represented Bucks with Alan (6 wins from 8) our most successful player.

Our friendly neighbours Beds put out a strong line up that included the imperious Sandra Harper as their woman representative and one-time MK player Steve Dobbins as Mens no.3.  Former English international Stuart Gibbs was in the Essex side, but couldn’t stop us sharing the points.  After losing to Herts we grabbed our first victory in unusual circumstances, only winning 2 of the 6 Mens Singles on offer, which meant taking all the doubles sets plus the Womens Singles.  A great team performance.

Bucks 2nd team results  (Div 2)

0-10 v Essex 3rds
6-4   v Berks
6-4   v Dorset
7-3  v  Beds 2nds

Andy Smith, Gerald Ridgway and Sue Lewis represented Bucks with Sue (3 wins from 4) our most successful player.

The blackwash against Essex wasn’t the best of starts for our newly formed second team but we recovered well to gain maximum points over the rest of the weekend.  Sue Lewis enjoyed a career best win against Berks’ Denise Weller that’s going to earn her loads of ranking points in the next published National ranking lists.  After another close call against Dorset we finished on Sunday with a big win over a Beds side that included MK Premier player Russell Penn.

A great weekend for all.  The remaning matches in the Divisions are in March.
