Mid-table Mursley Hawks took on high flying Milton Keynes Hit 'n' Hope, and with Hawks fielding two reserves playing up
from division 3 it would have suggested a relatively comfortbale win for the division 2 leaders. Hit 'n' Hope duly won 7-3,
but they certainly knew they'd been in a match, as Hawks gave them a tough battle all evening.
Paul Tompkins dropped one leg in beating Dan Walters to put the visitors ahead, but Martin Johnson managed to contain
the big topspin attack of Andy Frearson, to draw Hawks level. In form Ivor Howard had to battle hard versust David Bartlett,
but again it was a win for Hit 'n' Hope in four closely contested legs, and the visitors collected their seventh doubles out of
eight outings, to move 3-1 up, as Paul/Ivor just about held off a fine effort from Dan/David. Paul edged past Martin in the
only three games set of the night, including a comeback from 8-2 down in the third, just as it seemed Martin was getting
the upper hand after narrow losses in legs 1 and 2, to take it 11-9. Ivor found himself a leg down to Dan, but once more
won through in four games, whilst David went even closer against Andy, going two legs up, before Andy started to fully
find his range with big shots on both wings, to win through in the night's only five setter. Hit 'n' Hope extended thier lead
to 7-1, as Ivor managed a first win over Martin, yet again in four close games. However, there was a sting in the tail from
Hawks, as the two reserves each managed a win, to leave the final scoreline as a 7-3 win to Hit 'n' Hope, as David came
from one leg down to beat Paul in four legs, whilst Dan collected his first division 2 win, defeating Andy, yet again in four
closely fought legs.
The win was the fifth in a row for Hit 'n' Hope, and with Classics losing later in the week, extended their lead at the top of
the table to seven points, with just one round of matches to go before the halfway point in the League, whilst Hawks just
drop behind Lagondas, in a packed middle of the table. Ivor extended his run of singles wins to 15 in a row.
