MK Topspin 2  St.Christopher Van Hire 8

Our visitors brought their ‘A’ team to Milton Keynes tonight and wrestled 2nd spot in the League from us whilst inflicting the heaviest defeat in Topspin's short (54 match) history.

Fabrice Spelta in particular was as sharp as a pin in beating me first up and then Mervyn Kelly, both in straight games. Fabrice did falter slightly later against Russell Penn, only winning 11-8 in the 5th, but then Russell was having a good night too.

Mervyn had scored a famous victory over Biao Wang last time but Van Hire’s main man was ready for him tonight. He’d read up on his notes in his little red book on how to play against opponents and closed the set out, on an edge, deuce in the 4th. Russell also took a game from him.

The 2 Topspin successes came at the expense of Paul Haigh, who looked a little flat (especially compared to his team-mates) but still did enough to beat Mervyn.
