Bandits 2 Kingpins 8

The first 2 matches of the evening both went the distance. Mark came from 2-1 down to beat James, and losing 3 points for a 2-0 lead proved costly for Dave A as Jamie beat him in 5. Julian then beat Dave B in a close 4 ender before 2 routine wins, 1 for Bandits in the doubles and 1 for Mark against Jamie. Julian then won 2 of the next 3 matches, both in 5,  first against James and then Jamie to complete his maximum.

Sandwiched between those wins was the most dramatic match of the night between Dave A and Dave B. The first end went to Dave A comfortably enough before Dave B took the next 2. What followed was 64 points (yes 64!) over 2 ends of ebb and flow. Dave B stood at 10-7 up in the 4th with victory beckoning. However he squandered these match points and a few more before Dave A prevailed 20-18, leaving non playing Bandits captain Mike Wilkins regretting having volunteered to score! More drama in the 5th when Dave B had another match point at 10-9 but failed to convert. Dave A made the most of his lifeline to finally win 14-12.

In the final 2 matches Mark beat Dave B to complete his maximum and Dave A beat James 3-0 with some good hitting that was nowhere to be seen against Dave B.

Could this result be the springboard for a Kingpins title challenge?  It remains unlikely but in such a tight season with teams taking points off each other, there will, be more twists and turns to come.
